The idea of providing a luxury shopping service for international visitors and locals seeking unique Vancouver discoveries came over me when a visiting relative asked for high end shopping advice.

Now Vancouver Shopping by Appointment offers custom-designed shopping tours by limo. While ensconced in luxurious leather upholstery, the seeking shopper is connected to the local creator or seller of beautiful and original things ranging from collectable Native Art to Sailing Equipment to Specialised Corsetry.

The fusion between creation and the search for treasures? Part of it is described by Ernest Rossi, Ph. D in The Psychobiology of Gene Expression.  He talks about how quickly genes may be activated by memories, feelings and thoughts - some in under two seconds!   I’m so glad Rossi has shown me that unpredictability and novelty can engage us and our genes when we see fantastic art, architecture or drama.  I want my genes always to be bursting with newness! Over exquisite carpets?  Yes! Over Haute Couture?  Yes!

Remember: novelty is crucial to learning and shopping can be a way of improving one’s mood and need not necessarily lead to impulsive or inadvisable purchases.   Hopefully one can get the shoes, plus the added bonus of new brain growth, new memory (the shoes are unforgettable) and learning.

 In future then, when combing through the stunning dresses of Italian silk at JC Studio on 6th in Vancouver, I have to ask not only, “ Will this fit? “ but also, “ Which pattern, cut, design will be best for promoting self-renewing stem cells in my cerebral cortex, hippocampus and hypothalamus!”
